Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Kun-hee dies

Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Kun-hee passed away. He is 78 years old.


According to the business community on the 25th, Chairman Lee died on the same day after a prolonged struggle. The deceased, born in 1942, died after fighting for 6 years after being hospitalized for acute myocardial infarction on May 10, 2014.

Chairman Lee Kun-hee, son of Samsung Group founder Lee Byung-cheol, led the Samsung Group for about 27 years from the succession of Samsung Group management in 1987 to hospitalization in 2014.


Chairman Lee is evaluated for turning Samsung into a global company through new businesses such as semiconductors, smartphones, and biotechnology after Samsung's management.


Samsung was the best company in Korea even before Chairman Lee took over, but it was difficult to be ranked first in the world.

However, Chairman Lee transformed Samsung into a global company with the Declaration of "Change everything except your wife and children", Shin Shin-young represented by'quality-oriented management', and the strategy of'selection and concentration' overcoming the IMF financial crisis.


During the 27-year period in which Chairman Lee was in charge of management, the Samsung Group's sales increased by 40 times and its market capitalization more than 300 times.
